A stretch of the A500 near Alsager is shut this afternoon while emergency services respond to a lorry fire.

The D-road southbound is blocked between the M6 junction 16 and the junction for the A34 Talke Road, at the Talke Roundabout.

The road had been shut in both directions but now the northbound carriageway, towards junction 16 of the M6, has since reopened.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The A500 in Staffordshire is closed southbound between the M6 J16 near Crewe and the A34 near Talke due to a HGV Fire.

"Staffordshire emergency services are in attendance.

"National Highways service providers are also in attendance assisting with traffic management."

Nub News has approached Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue for a statement.
