Alsager person-centred counsellor, Hannah Bolton, offers her professional insight into why mums are so important.

Hannah told Nub News: "When you look into it, there is no definition of what or who a mum is.

"When you say the word mum, I am sure we all image different people whether that be; expectant mummies, you as a mum, your mum, grandmothers, or significant people in your life that you have thought of as your mum."

What do you think about when you hear the word mum?

"For me personally I think of warmth, love, and support. I'm lucky enough to have an amazing mum who is my rock. She's my inspiration to want to do better for myself. She is a fabulous Gran to my children, and I wouldn't know where I would be without her," said Hannah.

"By no means do I take this for granted, I know there are people who don't have the same relationship with their mums, or some mums who are sadly no longer with us.

"For those who don't have someone they can call mum, I would love to be able to support you. If you were considering counselling, then please feel free to contact me.

"If you are a mum yourself and finding things tough, I would love to be able to support you too. Being a mum is not always, 'plain sailing,' and there is no 'manual,' you are doing the best you can.

"It's ok to have days off; not going out with the kids, having a messy house, or trying to give yourself five minutes to think without hearing 'mummy' all the time.

"Self-care is so important. I know I write that and think to myself and when exactly am I going to have the time to do that?

"It doesn't have to be anything that lasts hours - it might just be going for a 10-minute walk, allowing yourself that bit of extra chocolate or going for a soak in the bath. Allowing yourself to be you and time to breathe is essential."

Hannah added: "I hope with Mother's Day approaching, you manage to find some time for self-care and do something that helps you to relax.

"I wanted to give a shout out to all mums near and far - you are amazing and doing the best you can!

"I run a group for parental anxiety every month for anyone that wishes to book on please feel free to contact me, this group will give you a good support network and allow you to talk about your parental concerns free of judgment.

"I also offer counselling for any relationship difficulties, looking at what relationships mean to you and how this may be having an impact. I also offer bereavement counselling."

Please feel free to contact me if you would like any more information, I offer a free initial chat to see If counselling is something you would like to have.
