A new Alsager SEND school, TILT Education, is celebrating an impressive Ofsted report just over a year after opening – and is already working towards 'Exceptional'.

The school was judged 'Strong standard' in every graded area of its first Ofsted inspection, just over a year after registering with the Department for Education.

TILT Education, based on Cardway Business Park, supports young people aged 11–16 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

At its July 2026 inspection, TILT achieved Strong in all six areas: Achievement; Attendance and Behaviour; Curriculum and Teaching; Inclusion; Leadership and Governance; and Personal Development and Wellbeing.

Safeguarding standards and all Independent School Standards were also met. Under Ofsted's new framework, Strong means the school is working above the standard expected.

"Pupils experience success… typically for the first time"

Among the report's most powerful findings was that pupils at TILT "experience success… typically for the first time in their education journey."

Many pupils arrive following difficult previous experiences of education. Inspectors praised TILT's balance of emotional support and academic expectations, finding that pupils "achieve very well in all aspects of their development" and make "excellent progress from their starting points."

Ofsted also found that all pupils' attendance significantly improves, behaviour improves the longer pupils attend, and described TILT's impact on pupils' attitudes to learning as "profound."

Headteacher Debbie Goode said: "We opened TILT because we believe having SEND should never place a ceiling on a young person's aspirations or achievements.

"To achieve Strong in every area just over a year after opening is something our whole school community can be incredibly proud of. But what means even more are Ofsted's comments about the difference we are making to our pupils.

"Many have previously struggled with education. Seeing Ofsted describe our impact on their attitudes to learning as 'profound' is exactly why we created TILT."

Wellbeing and individual needs at the heart of TILT

All pupils at TILT have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Inspectors praised the school's individualised approach, finding that staff know pupils' needs extremely well and carefully balance emotional development with academic progress.

Personal development and wellbeing was also judged Strong, with the curriculum described as "meticulously well matched" to pupils' needs and vulnerabilities.

Ofsted also recognised TILT's work preparing young people for adulthood through work experience, college links and career pathways, helping pupils build aspirations and "see a positive future."

Already planning the next stage

Despite the result, TILT's leaders say they have no intention of standing still and are now working towards Exceptional practice.

Plans already underway include a dedicated Thrive Practitioner to strengthen SEMH and emotional-development support and enhanced Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to support pupils with post-16 education, training and employment.

Head of Centre Ryan Goodwin said: "We are extremely happy with the report, but we see it as our starting point rather than our destination.

"Our next phase is about building on what Ofsted has recognised and strengthening our specialist SEND and wellbeing provision even further.

"Our ambition is Exceptional practice, and our pupils deserve us to set the highest expectations for ourselves as well as for them."

Parents praise the school's impact

Parents and carers were described by Ofsted as "highly positive" about TILT's impact on their children, with inspectors noting the wider positive effect on family life.

The report also found that staff go "above and beyond" to give pupils experiences they may have missed in previous settings.

Headteacher Debbie Goode added: "We are incredibly proud of our pupils. This report belongs to them as much as it does to our staff.

"It demonstrates what young people can achieve when they are understood, when wellbeing and education work hand-in-hand and when expectations remain high.

"Strong across every area after our first year is something to celebrate. Now our challenge is to become even better."
