From landfill to learning: how Alsager's revamped uniform scheme benefits families and the planet
By The Editor 12th May 2026
Teenagers and youngsters grow out of clothing quickly, especially when it comes school uniform.
Alsager Community Support runs a scheme which not only saves the planet but also keeps the cost of kitting out children for school to a minimum.
And they are taking donations of clean, good-quality uniform from all Alsager schools for their uniform recycling scheme which is hugely popular.
This year they are making a few changes in the uniform service run at the Crewe Road centre as they revealed when Alsager Nub News spoke to them.
An Alsager Community Support (ACS)spokesperson said: "We will still maintain our large stock of pre-owned uniform for all Alsager schools, including badged items.
"We stock the whole range of school wear, including PE kit, football boots, shoes, PE bags etc. We also have a seasonal selection of wellies, coats and Christmas jumpers available.

"We welcome donations of clean, good-quality uniform from all Alsager schools. This helps support local families and reduces landfill. Our uniform recycling scheme is open to everyone."
However they are no longer able to offer a pre-order service as . "We have a large volume of stock to process with only a handful of volunteers," explained the ACS spokesperson.
"Having to also hand-pick orders or put items back into stock when they are not collected, means that we are unable to sustain this level of service any longer.
"All items will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The historic swap scheme will also no longer be in operation.
"Alsager High School blazers will now be available for a suggested donation of £5 each and their branded sports tops at £3. All other items will remain at £1. This is still fantastic value."
"All the money raised from this helps to support their work in the community and is spent directly on helping the Alsager community to thrive - be it continuing the befriending, shopping and driving services, or in supporting pay overheads, such as rent.
"This will ensure that we are able to remain in our premises and keep our drop-in support centre and uniform room open.
The spokesperson added: "If you would like to support our work by becoming a uniform volunteer, we would love to hear from you.
"You can message us through our website here our Facebook page here or why not pop in and see our volunteer co-ordinator for a chat about how you can get involved? Together we can make local lives better."
