A water company has claimed that excrement and wastewater poured from a manhole cover in Alsager because the sewer was damaged by a "third party".

United Utilities' engineers were sent to Talke Road, Alsager, last night (Monday) following reports of raw sewage flooding out of a manhole cover and onto the pavement.

The engineers have got the sewer working again and cleared up the footpath with a full repair to resolve the issue scheduled.

A spokesperson for United Utilities told Nub News: "Our engineers attended the site of the sewer flooding on Talke Road in Alsager yesterday evening.

"They managed to get the sewer running again and carry out a clean-up of the highway.

"Their investigation showed that a third party, working in the area, had damaged the sewer. A full repair has been scheduled."
