A businesswoman from Scholar Green near Alsager features in a collaborative book project raising mental health awareness.

Emma Semper Hopkins (40), is one of 15 women who have come together nationally to share their life stories in 'Seen Too', which is available to pre-order on Kindle.

All funds raised will be used to support counselling, group activities and group coaching at Advance Brighter Futures – a recovery-focused mental health and wellbeing charity.

"My story is about learning to overcome fears, anxiety and overwhelm," said Emma, who is the owner of Semper Hopkins Upholstery & Interiors in Cinderhill Lane.

"I was doing too much and stuck in a vicious circle of burnout… That feeling of constantly struggling to juggle all that life throws at you and self-doubt you are doing anything well.

'I've been on a journey of self-care – learning to put my needs first and not feel guilty for doing it.

"I retrained as an upholsterer and, today, my life looks totally different. I work alongside my dad Ian in our converted chapel – running upholstery workshops for groups and individuals.

"On the weekends, I head to the beach with my husband Dave and son Alfie in our motorhome. I hope my story inspires readers out there to be brave, to be courageous and to be themselves. What's the worst that can happen?"

'Seen Too' follows on from 'Seen', which became an Amazon bestseller in six categories following its release during Mental Health Awareness Week 2021.

Katherine Massey, who created the project, is hopeful of replicating last year's chart success.

"As the founder of the VQ Academy, my mission is to help women go from invisible to visible and to be seen as themselves no matter what their past or background is," said Katherine.

"I would like to acknowledge the courage of all 15 contributors, as well as to thank everyone at TAUK Publishing who has helped in this book-writing process.

"My ultimate goal is to raise awareness of the incredible work undertaken by Advance Brighter Futures."

In her story, Emma also reveals that starting her business was one of the best things she has done – allowing her to follow her passion for upholstery and have the flexibility to work around her family.

She added: "I am grateful to friends and family for supporting me through the journey.

"I would also like to congratulate my fellow authors and encourage everyone to read their inspiring stories of strength and resilience."
