Santa is getting ready to get into top gear in Alsager this weekend when he gets in the saddle and does a cycling tour of the area.

The big man is setting off from Alsager Golf Club at 9.30am on Sunday and due back at the club just before 11.15 am.

He will be checking to see everyone has got their Christmas decorations up and lights on to shine the way for him.

And he won't be alone on his travels for Alsager Harlequins Cycling Club are escorting Santa to ensure he doesn't stop off at any of the pubs for a glass of mulled wine!

A spokesman from Harlequins Cycling Club said: "Unfortunately, none of his usual helpers will be with him because they will all be busy making toys and because it's double time on Sundays.

"The ride starts from the golf club at 9.30 am and we will ride around lots of the roads and estates in Alsager.

" If you see Santa be sure to give him a wave and if you've got a tray of freshly baked mince pies he will most likely stop to say hello.

"He's got a busy time and needs to maintain his energy levels. It's also hard work riding a bike in his Santa costume and he's not getting any younger!"

"Finally Santa would like to say sorry for now to any motorists if he gets in the way and slows any of you down. Please bear with him."
