Residents object to plans to convert convert-bed house into 10-bed HMO in Alsager

Plans to convert a four-bed house in Alsager into a 10-bed HMO will have a 'profoundly negative impact on the character, safety, and wellbeing of the community', residents claim.
Ehab Attisha has applied to Cheshire East Council for permission to convert the property at 3 Audley Road, into a 10-bed house in multiple occupation and make external changes to existing windows.
At the time of writing, 15 residents have emailed the council to object.
Objections include concerns about lack of parking, drainage issues, overlooking of neighbouring properties, the risk of an increase in anti-social behaviour and congestion on a busy junction which is close to a railway level crossing.
One objector wrote: "As a long-standing resident of this area, I wish to express in the clearest possible terms my deep concern about the profoundly negative impact this proposal would have on the character, safety, and wellbeing of our community.
"This neighbourhood is a well-established, low-density residential area comprising primarily of family homes.
"The introduction of such a development is entirely out of character for the area and conflicts with the core objectives of local parish council, which seeks to protect residential amenity and maintain balanced communities and approving this application would set an extremely concerning precedent.
"It risks opening the floodgates to further such conversions, which would erode the residential character that so many of us have worked hard to maintain."
Another said: "The premises have no parking spaces, and currently Audley Road experiences large volumes of passing traffic, and parking on the narrow road causes major hold ups and potential road safety issues on the junction of Talke Road and Audley Road outside of this proposed property.
"The railway station and level crossing is frequently used and the traffic build-up around this property is only going to be magnified if residents of a 10-bed HMO own a vehicle and park on the road/pavement."
Another objector raised concerns about overcrowding.
He wrote: "How is this going to be adequate for 10 people? The property is also too small to house so many people, this will cause overcrowding and strain on the facilities.
"There is no outside space for residents to relax or socialise. This will therefore impact on local infrastructure and community resources."
The application, number 25/0784/FUL, can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East Council's website.
