Angry residents have launched a petition to block plans for 1,100 new homes in Alsager.

A public consultation opened last week here for Hallam Land's plans to build up to 1,100 homes on land between Hassall Road and Dunnocksfold Road to the north west of Alsager.

But residents are up in arms saying it would be a loss of green space and have launched a 'Stop the Manor View Development – Save Alsager's Green Space' petition here which already has 293 signatures.

Organiser, Maisie Hardman said: "Having moved to Alsager, one of the things that struck me most about the town was its beautiful green spaces, wildlife and strong sense of community.

"The area proposed for development is used daily by local residents, including families, walkers and dog owners, and is home to a variety of wildlife that many fear could be lost if the development proceeds.

"In response to these concerns, I recently launched a petition opposing the Manor View development, which continues to grow.

"The petition represents the views of local residents who believe this green space should be protected for current and future generations.

"Many supporters are concerned about the loss of wildlife habitat, the impact on community wellbeing, and the continued development of green land when there are existing commercial and industrial sites that could potentially be better utilised.

"Green spaces are often discussed in planning terms simply as land, but to local people they are places where children explore nature, dog walkers meet, residents exercise and communities connect.

"Once these spaces are lost, they cannot truly be recreated. I am currently distributing posters around Alsager with QR codes linking directly to the petition and am actively encouraging residents to engage with the consultation process and have their voices heard."

The public consultation for the plan closes on 30 October.

Adam Masters, Senior Land and Planning Manager at Hallam Land, said: "Manor View offers an opportunity to provide much-needed homes for Alsager, including affordable homes, as part of a neighbourhood that connects with the existing town.

"We want its green spaces, walking and cycling routes and potential community facilities to benefit existing residents as well as those who may live there in future.

"These plans are still developing. We encourage local people to look at them, tell us what matters to them and help shape the proposals before we submit an outline planning application."

The proposals and a feedback form are available here. People can also send comments or questions to [email protected]. A leaflet has been distributed with information about the consultation.
