Rail travellers in Alsager face another day of misery today

By Deborah Bowyer 8th Oct 2022

Train travellers in Alsager faced misery again today (Saturday) as strikes hit services across the network.

West Midlands Railway, Cross Country Trains and Northern Rail announced strike action today (October 8th).

Members of the RMT union are also taking part in action today (October 8th).

In addition, engineering works are taking place between Birmingham International and Coventry this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

CrossCountry are advising passengers to only travel if their journey is absolutely essential, allowing extra time for their journeys, and to check the CrossCountry website before travelling as there may be last minute alternations and cancellations to services.

They say passengers due to travel on Sunday (October 9th) are advised to consider starting their journey later and check their journeys as trains may be starting later.

Tom Joyner, Managing Director at CrossCountry said: "These unnecessary strikes cause significant disruption to our passengers, and we are sorry for any inconvenience they will cause.

"We are working closely with industry partners to offer as many services as possible on 8th October and remain committed to working with colleagues so that we can run a robust service for the many people across Great Britain who rely on us

"We strongly advise passengers to check their journeys in advance, as many routes across the UK rail network will be affected. In some situations, it may be better to avoid travelling by train during this time and make alternative arrangements."
