Police have issued tips on protecting your vehicle after a resident had their tyres slashed in the early hours of the morning.

Cheshire Police say they received a call about criminal damage in one road in the town after the resident has captured a man slashing tyres on their doorbell camera.

Now they are advising people to ensure there is good external security lighting and thinking about creating a boundary round their property.

A Cheshire police spokesperson said: "At around 7.34am this morning (Monday), officers in Alsager received a report of criminal damage on Richard Woodcock Way.

"The caller reported that they had captured an unknown man slashing the tyres of their vehicle at around 3.15 am earlier that morning on their ring doorbell camera."

Police say they are conducting enquiries and asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at around the time of the incident or captured anything on any CCTV, ring doorbell or dashcam to contact them via 101 or via the website, quotingIML-1970290.

Callers can also give information anonymously via Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

Cheshire Police have issued the following tips for protecting vehicles:

  • Good external security lighting can put off or draw attention to anyone who may be approaching your property – the most appropriate form is high efficiency low energy lighting controlled by a dusk-to-dawn switch so that it only comes on when it is dark
  •
  • If parked on a drive, consider creating a boundary around your property with fencing and secure gates. Gravel areas are also useful as the noise of them being walked on may deter anyone trespassing or approaching your vehicle
  •
  • Ring doorbells/external CCTV cameras can be set up outside your home or near to any outbuildings near your vehicle to capture any incidents that might occur
  •
