An Alsager restaurant is closed "until further notice" and police have launched an appeal for information after a car collided with street furniture.

Police were called to reports of a collision in Lawton Road at 3 am on Saturday (July 1st) morning.

A spokesperson from Cheshire police said: "Officers attended and found that a white BMW X3 had collided with street furniture and the front of a local restaurant before driving off in the direction of Crewe Road.

"The vehicle was subsequently found abandoned nearby and has been recovered by officers. There were no reports of any injuries.

"It has since been reported that the car had been stolen from an address on Crewe Road sometime between 11pm on Friday 30 June and the time of the collision."

The restaurant in question is Caster's in the centre of Alsager which is now directing customers to its sister restaurant, The Vault, in Crewe Road.

A notice on the outside says: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, Caster's is closed until further notice.
