Four roads in Alsager are set to be removed from Cheshire East's list of those to be gritted starting next winter.

Among the roads in Alsager that would no longer be gritted are Church Road, Hassall Road and Lodge Road, which are all in close proximity to Alsager School. Chancery Lane would also be removed.

Residents have until Friday (20 November) to comment on the proposals set out in borough's Well Managed Highway Infrastructure programme.

Alsager roads due to be added to the gritting programme are College Road, Dunnocksfold Road, Derwent Close, Wood Drive, Bedford Grove and Coronation Avenue.

Close Lane, Cranberry Lane, Linley Road, Pikemere Road and Sandbach Road South have all been named on Cheshire East's retained gritting list.

Cheshire East highlighted that the proposed winter treatment network has been developed using a risk based process to take into consideration local risk factors including usage, local amenities, vulnerable users, public transport and local risks such as steep gradients, cold spots and other known local issues.

Church Lawton's Knowsley Lane and Sandbach Road are also due to be removed.

Speaking at a recent Alsager Town Council meeting, Cllr Julian Goodrich said: "Yet again Cheshire East are looking to not grit the back roads, they are only proposing to do the major roads.

"The worry for round here in particular is that a lot of the minor roads are used a lot by commuters and the school run in the mornings.

"If those roads are not gritted then we could be entering a very dangerous situation."

Nub News has contacted Cheshire East, asking how residents can submit their comments on the planned changes. We are currently waiting on a response.
