Plans for up to eight homes on a parcel of land near Alsager recommended for approval

Plans for up to eight homes on a parcel of land close to the Rising Sun at Scholar Green have been recommended for approval.
The outline application, from Wesley and Maxine Condliffe, has been referred to Cheshire East's southern planning committee because the recommendation is a departure from the development plan.
The council planning officer's report to next week's meeting says the Station Road site is within the open countryside and within the Potteries green belt.
But Cheshire East doesn't have a five-year supply of housing land.
The report states: "The application site can be considered grey belt land, there is a demonstrable unmet need for housing, and the site is sustainably located.
"As such the proposal would be acceptable in principle."
It continues: "The proposed development would not negatively impact the setting of the nearby heritage assets of the Macclesfield Canal Conservation Area and the listed bridge, and the application is acceptable in terms of noise – the nearby railway and public house, amenity, drainage, and ecology.
"The only matter other than the principle of development is access.
"The highways officer has reviewed the plans and requested further visibility splays and a swept path analysis which they consider acceptable."
Odd Rode Parish Council has said the site is at the entrance to the village and a less dense development would be more appropriate in this location.
It also says the site is adjacent to a narrow humped-back canal bridge and visibility can be poor, especially as vehicles park along Station Road.
"There have been numerous near misses on this road," states the parish council in its comments.
"Eight houses will generate more traffic, adding to the problem.
"A lower density development would reduce the likelihood of accidents."
One letter of objection has been received from a member of the public, again relating to highway safety.
The application has been recommended for approval subject to the submission and consideration of a hedgerow regulations assessment and conditions.
The southern planning committee meeting takes place at Delamere House in Crewe on Wednesday, June 3, at 10am.
