Petition launched for mandatory DBS checks for delivery drivers

An Alasager councillor is calling on the Government to make it mandatory for all delivery drivers to undergo at least a basic DBS check.
Councillor Reg Kain says he believes that by completing a DBS, a disclosure and barring service check, those receiving deliveries of parcels and other items, would have protection.
He says he has launched the 'Require DBS checks for delivery drivers' petition because he wants "to protect the most vulnerable in our society" from "dangerous or unscrupulous" delivery drivers.
He said: "We are concerned that vulnerable people, including elderly, women and disabled individuals, open their doors daily to strangers delivering food or parcels.

"It may then be possible for the driver to enter their homes. Most other drivers are required to have DBS checks; we believe the same should apply to delivery workers."
The petition currently has just 326 signatures but Cllr Kain is calling on more people to sign it. Cllr Kain needs 10,000 signatures for the Government to respond to the petition.
At 100,000 signatures, the petition will be considered for debate in Parliament. Residents have until January 25th 2026 to sign it. The petition can be signed here
