An organisation set up to encourage lifelong learning is looking forward to the year ahead – after holding its 25th anniversary concert and its annual general meeting.

Alsager and District U3A held a very successful 25th anniversary concert led by its own orchestra on October 15th at St Mary's Church in the town.

And hot on the heels of the concert was attended by well over 200 members and friends and raising over £2,000 for local charities, the organisation held its AGM, its 26th.

Now the organisation is looking forward to the next year which includes its annual open morning on Monday 27th November, when it showcases all its activities.

Chair, Alan Bell, heaped praise on the work of the committee, group leaders and their assistants at the meeting at Alsager Civic which was attended by 165 members.

Mr Bell, in his address, reviewed the year 2022-23 covering all aspects of U3A life. He was able to tell the membership that we now have well over 1,000 members attending 59 activity groups.

And he made special mention of all the helpers that make Alsager U3A an extremely successful organisation.

"A new committee has now been formed and the Chair is delighted to say that it looks as though the roles of Treasurer and Secretary have now been filled which will allow the organisation to continue for another year," he said.

"Our next celebration of success will be held on Monday 27th November when we will hold our yearly Open Morning to showcase all our activities.

"This will be a very special occasion where again we will celebrate 25 years. Original Committee Members from 1998 will be invited to celebrate this with us.

"The Chair would like to think that local residents who are not aware of the U3A will be able to attend and support us at this event. You are all welcome."
