Neighbourhood police officers have visited Cheshire College South and West's Crewe campus to support the college in a bid to educate students on the dangers associated with the possession and use of controlled drugs.
Neighbourhood Policing teams from Crewe, Congleton and Northwich worked together in efforts to engage with members of the learning community.
Neighbourhood officers have been working closely with the college over recent months to ensure that students from the campus are following the expected standards of behaviour that the college has of its students both on and off site.
The main aim of the operation was to speak to students and educate them on the dangers of drugs, offer guidance and onward referral to support agencies and support college safeguarding staff.
PC James Hough, the neighbourhood constable for Crewe West who planned the work with the college, said: "This joint work with the college and supporting agencies illustrates our commitment to the college community in Crewe and the community that surrounds the site.
As a neighbourhood policing team we regularly attend and engage with the learning community, offering them inputs throughout the academic year. This operation was part of this continuing support commitment."
Nimisha Mistry-Miah, Assistant Principal in charge of Learner Services at the college, said: "As part of our continued work to ensure safety across our campus sites, we were happy to welcome members of Cheshire Police along with passive drugs dogs and other support agencies to our Crewe campus in order to educate our learners of the dangers associated with the possession and use of controlled drugs.
"The activity has seen us work in partnership with the police and other agencies to raise awareness of campus safety and to offer support to any learners who may need support or help for substance misuse.
"This work forms part of the wider safety work the college has been doing to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all."
