Alsager Town Council has installed a mobile speed indicator device (SIDs) funded through the town's community infrastructure levy (CIL) in Richard Woodcock Way.

This follows complaints by residents who claim the road is used as a rat run since the new Sainsbury's was built and various action taken by Alsager district councillor, Rod Fletcher who wrote to Cheshire East seeking improvements,

Now information is to be collated by the town council on how many vehicles are using the road and the speed they are travelling at.

Cllr Rod Fletcher previously said: "When the detailed Planning Application for 269 houses to be built on the former Twyford's Factory Site, Alsager Town Council objected to have a through route through the estate.

"Cheshire East planning department, however, did allow a through route. Most of this estate is now occupied and for some time, residents on Richard Woodcock Way have expressed concern about speeding vehicles using the road as a short cut from Linley Lane avoiding Lawton lights.

"I and many residents have expressed concern to Cheshire East and the developers but with very little action."

In a reply to Cllr Fletcher's enquiry nearly a year ago, Cheshire East said: "The council received some S106 funding for traffic management measures and we are using this to progress an investigation into widening the footpath below the railway bridge.

"As part of this study, which will commence shortly, we are also doing further work to understand the issues in the drainage system including jetting out and surveys of the existing system with a view to securing a longer term solution.

"We will update when the feasibility study is completed on next steps and timelines when the feasibility study is completed on next steps and timelines."
