An avid runner is raising money for brain tumour research after her husband was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Mum-of-one, Becky Hancock, recently ran the Alsager 5 and now she's preparing to run more races to raise much-needed cash to fund research.
The teaching assistant, who lives in Beech Avenue, Rode Heath, is determined to raise as much money as possible for the charity Brain Tumour Research.
She has launched a JustGiving page, https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/becky-hancock4 and has already raised £1,370.
"In June 2019 it was the week of our son's first birthday, a time that should have been filled with complete happiness, when our lives changed forever," said Becky.
"My husband, Glenn was diagnosed with a right sided, grade three brain tumour. After the worst seven hours of everyone's life, Glenn was recovering from surgery where they managed to remove 80% of the tumour.
"For the next 7.5 weeks Glenn had radiotherapy every single day and has been on chemotherapy for two years.
"No matter what has been thrown at him, he has never once moaned or backed down from this fight and has faced every battle with complete bravery.
"Before this time in our lives, I had never heard of brain cancer and yet the statistics speak for themselves."
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40 and more than 12,000 people are diagnosed each year with a primary brain tumour, including 500 children and young people.
Becky, pictured above with her son and husband Glenn, added: "At least 88,000 children and adults are estimated to be living with a brain tumour in the UK currently."
Becky is often accompanied on her running challenges with fellow runner, Danny Huff, who runs with the mum-of-one.
"This is my way of helping and giving something back to Brain Tumour Research which is so important.
"Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours."
Alsager Nub News wishes Becky the best of luck in her fundraising endeavours. Go Becky!
