Mayor of Alsager shares his thoughts on the 'moving' Holocaust Memorial Day Service
By Deborah Bowyer 27th Jan 2026
The Mayor of Alsager, Councillor Michael Unett, attended Cheshire East Council's Holocaust Memorial Day service today (Monday) saying "we must always remember, never forget and always stand up to hatred".
Cllr Unett was among local mayors, councillors, representatives, schoolchildren and visitors to attend the event at Crewe Municipal Buildings hosted by the Mayor of Cheshire East.
Real life experiences were shared by a guest speaker from the Northern Holocaust Education Group and from the Leader of Cheshire East Council, Councillor Nick Mannion and the Deputy Leader, Councillor Michael Gorman.

Cllr Unett said on Social Media: "Eighty-one years ago today saw the liberation of Auschwitz. The horrors of the Holocaust took the lives of over six million Jews and others and has had a profound and lasting impact on those who survived and on later generations.
"Holocaust Memorial Day serves as a reminder not only of what happened and those who lost their lives but also that we must continue to honour their memory by never forgetting and ensuring that nothing like this ever happens again."
