The operator at Alsager Leisure Centre has been awarded a council contract to provide activities to children with disabilities along with their parents and carers.

Everybody Sport and Recreation will deliver the Ability for All programme with activity sessions at its leisure centres across Cheshire East.

The programme provides a range of activities for young people with an impairment or additional need to participate.

The provider says activities offer young people the opportunity to promote independence, improve their health and well-being and fulfil their potential.

Andy Molyneux, the Disability Inclusion Lead at Everybody, said: "We are delighted to announce we have been awarded this contract. Our Ability for All sessions are extremely popular and we cannot wait to deliver this contract from the 1 June.

"We have been commissioned to deliver the following Short Break activities: Inclusive Cycling, Activity Hub, Activ8 Sessions, School Holiday Sessions and Splash & Play."

Inclusive cycling sessions are for children who might find cycling on a two-wheeled bike more challenging.

Everybody has a range of adapted bikes to support disabled children to learn basic cycling skills or have some fun cycling. The bikes allow service users who can't cycle independently the opportunity to be involved and take part in cycling with the support of Everybody Sport and Recreation staff.

Activ8 sessions allow children to try out new activities and let off steam without fear of being judged. Children can play on the specialist soft play equipment and get creative with arts and crafts, supervised by Everybody's friendly coaches and volunteers.

During the school holidays Everybody says it will deliver a range of activities to keep young people engaged and rotate these activities at venues across the borough to enable families to access them.

The holiday programme may include many sports, such as soft archery, boccia, football, inclusive cycling, indoor climbing and outdoor water-based activities.

Splash & Play is a 6-week block of pool sessions to encourage children to be more relaxed, have fun whilst developing basic safety awareness and swimming capability.
