Every household has their Christmas Eve traditions - laying out mince pies, watching Christmas films or wearing matching pyjamas.

Many families also gather in front of the computer to track Santa and his sleigh online.

The NORAD Santa Tracker allows children to see exactly where Santa is as he embarks on his travels around the world tonight.

According to their website, NORAD uses radars and satellites to track Santa's whereabouts.

They say: "Rudolph's nose gives off an infrared signature similar to a missile launch. The satellites detect Rudolph's bright red nose with no problem."

The online tracker begins at midnight today (December 23rd).

Instead of watching Santa online, NORAD also has a phone number (877 446-6723) that you can call to talk directly to a staff member who will be able to tell you Santa's exact location.

It's the perfect way to get your little ones excited for Santa's arrival.
