Hardwicke Circus in Crewe review: Emerging band delivers high-energy performance
An emerging band recommended by Sir Paul McCartney to play at Glastonbury 2022 have performed in Crewe - delivering a high-energy performance.
Hardwicke Circus hit the stage at Crewe Alexandra's Railwaymen Bar and Lounge, Gresty Road, last night (September 15).
The five-piece band from Carlisle performed a 90-minute set - getting the lively sell-out crowd on their feet and dancing the night away.
Hardwicke Circus delivered songs from their 2021 album, The Borderland, as well as 2022 single, The Colour In Everything.
Standout tracks on the night were Let's Make New Mistakes and Let's Make New Mistakes.
Ballad Of The Gypsy King was another hit - written about professional boxer, Tyson Fury and his affection for Morecambe Bay.
Hardwicke Circus were supported by talented Crewe singer and performer, Olivia Amson-Orth and musician artist, Evan Kirwan.
After both delivering solo performances, Olivia and Evan joined together to deliver songs as a duet.
Both acts got the crowd ready for an unforgettable performance from Carlisle United FC fans.
Mid-performance, Hardwicke Circus made a joke about this being the band's second visit to Crewe.
Lead singer and guitarist, Johnny Foster, said that their football team had lost to The Alex and they were back at Gresty Road to 'avenge the defeat.'
These comments went down well, showing the lead singer had what it takes to be a front man.
Foster told Nub News: "We want to perform at more football grounds - this gig has inspired us in a way.
"We do prisons, canal boats, theatres, festivals and we could definitely try more football grounds.
"If the clubs promote us, then it's a great avenue for building our name.
"This Crewe gig was special. It had people dancing and showing real energy."
Hardwicke Circus saxophone player, Andy Sax, got off stage to perform with the crowd on the dance floor - even playing on a table.
This high-energy was matched by all band members - highlighting their passion for music.
Keyboard player, Lewis Bewley-Taylor, delivered a wide mix of whirring synths and piano sounds - setting the tone for the overall performance.
He said: "It was a very good gig - there were lots of people standing up.
"I am content to stand at the back and play for the people - Its' an enjoyable role."
Drummer and vocalist, Tom Foster, delivered an anchor performance - matching his high-level energy track-after-track.
Bass player, Joe Hurst, was extremely pleased with the crowd on the night - thanking them for connecting with their songs.
Hurst told Nub News: "It was fun. There were more people than we thought - it's always nice to have people dancing.
"The crowd were very involved. Seeing people connect with the music was nice.
"It was really good playing here, when someone was connecting with a song you could really feel it."
There is no stopping for Hardwicke Circus. The band performs The Soundhouse in Leicster tonight (September 16) and Jesters Music Bar, Eastbourne on Saturday (September 17).
You can also listen to their music on Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube. They also have a Facebook, Twitter and Instagram page.
