Women in Africa are set to have bras – thanks to patients at a GP practice near Alsager.

Greenmoss Medical Centre in Scholar Green is collecting for the 'Smalls for All' charity which sends bras to people in Africa and the elsewhere.

And the initiative has been such a success that the practice in Portland Drive has collected nearly 100 bras to send off to the charity.

Janet Weaver, Practice Manager, said: "One of our Patient Participation Group members, Jean Moseley, had seen someone's plea in a local newsletter and asked me if we would like to be involved.

"I set up the "washing line" to catch patient's attention in our waiting room and we've collected nearly 100 bras since we started a couple of weeks ago. The collection box is overflowing.

"We were so sad to read about the situation for women in Africa but pleased we could do a little something to help."

.Maria Macnamara, founder and Chief Executive Officer of 'Smalls for All' said: "We collect new pants and new and gently worn bras.

"These are distributed to adults and children in greatest need. Our supporter base has grown substantially over the past few years – we now have over 100,000 followers – and together we're helping more and more people through our underwear donations.

"We're also keen to hear from anybody who can help support our work financially, enabling us to help even more people in the future."
