Children at a Kenyan school can now play safely and happily in their refurbished playground - thanks to students at Alsager School.

Pupils from Alsager School's 'Moreton College' raised around £500 from an Easter fair which has paid for sand and repairs at The King's School in Kenya.

He is a member of the charity, One By One, which helps with projects for vulnerable people across the world.

"The money raised in school was amazing and helped pay for sand and repairs in the playground," said Mr Buttery.

"It was wonderful to see the smiles on the childrens' faces at The Kings' School and to see them so happy in the playground. This means so much to them."

Mr Buttery took two suitcases full of donated items for the African children from football shirts to skipping ropes, bracelets, balloons and nail polish.

"I leave things over there so that when I go back I can fill my suitcase with things for the children. There's no electricity and the rainy season is long."

Mr Buttery, who sent updates to Alsager School's Facebook page while in Kenya, https://www.facebook.com/alsagerschool, is planning to go back to continue the work later this year.

Alsager School said on its Facebook page: "The kids are loving it - so many smiles and so much fun!

"A huge thank you to everyone involved with the Moreton fayre for raising funds for the project."
