Green-fingered residents are in for a treat this weekend - thanks to an initiative introduced by Alsager Town Council.

Alsager Town Council's Environmental and Open Spaces working group came up with the idea of offering residents a sapling for their front garden.

And on Saturday (February 17th) free saplings will be available for collection from 10 am – 11.30 am at Alsager Civic.

Rachel White, who helped organise it said: "It's on a first come first served and you must be an Alsager resident.

"There are five bare-root sapling varieties to choose from – cobnut, guelder rose, 'Midwinter Fire' dogwood, Siberian dogwood and golden twig dogwood.

"They should be planted straightaway – planting instructions will be provided."

Cllr White added: "They will improve the streetscape and support wildlife and biodiversity.

"After choosing a sapling, venture inside Alsager Civic and enjoy the monthly Olive and Stitch market too!"
