Fighting food waste: Alsager project gets recognised at this year's Civic Awards

A project which stops food going to landfill has been honoured at this year's annual Civic Awards.
This year Congleton MP, Sarah Russell, whose constituency covers Alsager, helped Alsager Mayor, Councillor Michael Unett, present the awards.
The affordable food club, the 'Bread and Butter Thing' based at Alsager Cricket Club on Monday received a volunteer award while Home Coffee in Lawton Road, which runs which community projects was awarded the business award.
Every Monday, anyone signed up for the 'Bread and Butter Thing' at Alsager Cricket Club can go along and collect several bags of food for a nominal fee. The service isn't means tested and anyone can apply.
'Heydays' received the 'Great Neighbour' award while Wyn Thomas from the Home Hospital Service received the carer award.

Alsager Lunch Club based at Alsager Civic and Alsager Lawn Tennis Club both received community awards.
Sarah Russell MP heaped praise on volunteers for their work and the part their play in helping the Alsager community to thrive.
