Firefighters used breathing apparatus after being called to a fence panel which had caught fire from a nearby barbecue.

They were called to Lea Way in Alsager at 8.19 am yesterday (Monday) after a fence panel was smouldering from a lit barbecue being sited too close.

A Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters in breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to dampen the panel and surrounding area down.

"The nearby shed roof was also removed to ensure there were no hotspots."
