Police say enquiries are continuing after armed police searched the streets of Alsager earlier this week following reports of a man possibly carrying a machete.

Residents living near Alsager railway station reported seeing police searching bushes both sides of the bridge and opposite a takeaway in Talke Road on Tuesday (September 3rd).

The man, wearing a dark coloured dressing gown, was captured on a CCTV footage belonging to Alsager resident, Cal John, who handed the footage over to police.

But police today said there was no fresh information and "enquiries were ongoing".

Mr John, an IT engineer from Sandbach Road South said: "I was working at home when police knocked on my door asking if they could look at any CCTV footage. They said they were looking for a bloke in a dressing gown carrying a machete.

"Apparently a guy had been run off the train by a man in a dressing gown carrying a machete. This guy apparently fled to Costa in Alsager for safety. I didn't see anything as I was busy working from home."
