Alsager School has won the regional final of the Oxford Schools debating competition - debating subjects such as primary school classes and building on the Green Belt.

And now one of the teams, who made it into the top six teams on the night, will go through to the final of the competition at Oxford University in March.

Two teams from Alsager School competed in the regional round of the Oxford Schools' Debating competition - the largest British Parliamentary school level debate competition in the world.

Both teams showcased their talents as debaters as well as the in-depth knowledge they had gained in the classroom - arguing over whether primary school classes should be setted according to ability and whether the green belt should be built on in cities with a housing crisis.

Miss  Lianne Jardine, assistant head said " We are thrilled that Alsager students are competing and winning at the highest level of school debating.

"We are very proud of the hard work that both teams put into their preparation for this competition and look forward to working together to maximise their performance in the final."
