Cystic fibrosis sufferer completes another London Marathon to raise money for the charity

A cystic fibrosis sufferer has completed another London Marathon raising vital funds for the charity which supports the condition.
Justyna Zaskwara, who lives in Alsager, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when just six months old but last weekend she took part in the London marathon raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust here
The condition affects her lungs and digestive system and can also affect other organs too as the disease progresses.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.
Bubbly Justyna, an accounts payable assistant, who moved to the town in 2022, had to forgo her place in last year's London Marathon due her health but this year she was determined to take part.

Justyna said: "Running the London Marathon wasn't just a physical challenge for me — it was deeply personal.
"I live with cystic fibrosis, a lifelong condition that affects my lungs and daily life in ways many people don't see. Some days are harder than others, and there have been moments when I've questioned whether my body would let me keep going — but giving up has never truly felt like an option.
"In 2024, I earned a place in the London Marathon, but sadly I wasn't able to make it to the start line in April 2025 due to my health.
"That disappointment was devastating, and for a while it felt like another dream taken away by my condition but it didn't end my journey.
"Instead, it strengthened my determination to come back stronger — not just for myself, but for everyone in the CF community."
Justyna said training this for this year's marathon was different but she's glad she did it.
"Progress isn't always linear, and there are days when simply showing up feels like a victory. Living with CF means carrying an invisible battle every single day," she said.
Justyna said she ran for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust because their work changes lives — from funding vital research to supporting people and families living with CF every single day.

She added: "The support they provide means better treatments, stronger care, and hope for a future where CF no longer limits lives."
Justyna has raised £1,025 of the £3,000 she has planned to raise from running the London Marathon. Donations for her JustGiving page can be made here .
