Cheshire Police reviewing 'complaint' after officer filmed SLAPPING man on head in Alsager

Cheshire Police has said it is reviewing a "complaint," after one of its officers was filmed appearing to slap a man on the head in an incident in Alsager.

On the evening of Sunday 4 February, police were dispatched to Field Way, Alsager.

At around 11:30pm, a 19-year-old man from Crewe was detained by two officers.

The 16-second Facebook footage shows one of the Cheshire Police officers pinning the man to the floor, who then slaps him on the head with his right hand (Nub News).

The officers were filmed by a member of the public, who believed they were acting aggressively with the Crewe man.

Cheshire Police say the footage does "does not show the full context" of the incident, with a complaint now being reviewed.

The Crewe man was later arrested and has been charged with failing to provide a specimen.

He has also been charged with beating of an emergency worker, failing to stop, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, resisting a constable, and possession of a bladed article.

Cheshire Police say the footage does

He appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 6 February and has been released on conditional bail until a hearing at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Thursday 23 May.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "We are aware of a video circulating on social media relating to an incident in Field Way, Alsager, which occurred at around 11.30pm on Sunday 4 February.

"The video in question only shows 16 seconds of an incident that lasted much longer and does not show the full context.

"A complaint has since been received in relation to this and is currently being reviewed, so it would be inappropriate to provide further details at this stage.

"A 19-year-old man who was arrested during the original incident has since been charged with failing to provide a specimen.

The Crewe man has been released on conditional bail until a hearing at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Thursday 23 May (Nub News).

"He was also charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker, failing to stop, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, resisting a constable, and possession of a bladed article.

"He appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 6 February and has been released on conditional bail until a hearing at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Thursday 23 May."
