Cheshire East Council welcomes 'another strong year' of GCSE results
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 20th Aug 2026
Students across Cheshire East are celebrating as they receive their GCSE and vocational qualification results.
Provisional figures show that 66 per cent of pupils achieved a standard pass (grade 4 or above) in GCSE English and maths combined and 45 per cent achieved a strong pass (grade 5 or above).
Overall results for pupils who studied vocational technical qualifications will be available in the autumn.
Councillor Emma Gilman, cabinet member for education and SEND at Cheshire East Council, said: "Today is a day for celebration and I am delighted to congratulate the many young people across Cheshire East on their achievements. As a corporate parent, I'm also pleased to see many of our cared for children reaching this milestone.
"Behind every result is a huge amount of hard work, determination and resilience, and our students should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished. I would also like to thank parents, carers, teachers and school staff for the vital encouragement and support they have provided throughout the year.
"It is particularly pleasing to see another year of strong performance by our schools and young people, reflecting the commitment and talent we have across Cheshire East.
"For those who may not have received the results they hoped for, I want to reassure them that there are many pathways to success. Together with our schools and partners, we are here to help every young person take the next step, whether that is further education, a sixth form, college, an apprenticeship, training or employment."
