A charity cycle ride in Alsager at the weekend has been a roaring success and organisers are already planning the next.

Alsager Harlequins Cycling Club and Alsager Rotary Club joined forces to organise the Reliability Ride.

Nearly a hundred cyclists took part yesterday (Sunday) in two rides – a 35 mile ride and a 50 mile ride from starting from the Horseshoe Inn in Sandbach Road, Lawton Heath End.

The shorter ride headed out towards Nantwich, before turning towards Audlem and on to Woore, then returning to Alsager via Betley and Barthomley.

The longer ride went towards Scholar Green and then an ascent of Mow Cop before dropping into Congleton and then heading out to Goostrey.

Now the clubs are talking about repeating the successful event next year and making it an annual event.

Alan Smith from Alsager Rotary Club who helped organise the event said:"It's worked really well. We provided the admin and logistics and the Harlequins provided the rest.

"We've had to cancel it twice due to Covid but it's finally taken place and we're delighted."

David Price, Chair of Alsager Harlequins Cycling Club, says the event will be have raised over £500 which will be split Alsager Food Bank and Alsager Rotary club's 'Youth Programme'.

He said: "It's been a brilliant event and we're delighted with everyone who took part."
