Rode Hall at Scholar Green is the location for the two workshops being held by Sevanti Roy whose in-depth knowledge of block printing, natural dyes and craft techniques comes from 20 years of working with Indian craft.

She has created sustainable craft for many years, working with important organisations such as the United Nations and has designed textiles for Sanderson, East, Brora, Fabian and Anoki.

A visiting lecturer at design colleges, Sevanti has given lectures and workshops at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and loves teaching and sharing her knowledge with all age groups and any skill set.

She said: "A lifelong fascination with ancient wood block printing lies at the heart of my work. I specialise in mud resist hand block printing and Indigo dye, which is an ancient technique.

"The first mud resist fragment was found in an Egyptian tomb which came to Egypt through trade roots from India. It gives a unique printed result which can't be achieved by any other methods.

"The technique is completely environmentally friendly and good for nature. The printing process is completed in three steps: printing with mud; dipping in indigo and finally washing off the mud to reveal the printed design on the textile.

"I work from my own drawings to create original designs, employing ancient techniques to produce contemporary textiles for home and fashion."

A block printing workshop takes place at Rode Hall on October 25th and an indigo dye and mud resist block print one on October 26th. Both workshops cost £75 each and lunch and materials are provided. To book follow the link here
