Chair of Alsager Town Council, Cllr Phil Williams, has praised the community-minded spirit of people in the town.

And he says it's 'people not political labels' which make the difference and put the town on the map.

He is urging people to come forward and stand for election to Alsager Town Council in the 2023 town and borough council elections in May.

"If 2022 was varied and challenging, then 2023 is likely to be the same," says Cllr Williams.

"Whatever it brings there is still plenty to celebrate and be grateful for. We are fortunate to live in a community where there are so many voluntary groups and individuals who make a difference.

"I was struck by how quickly some public-spirited people responded when the iconic painted tree was vandalised. His nose is damaged but it's still there and he's still smiling."

He added: "As chair of Alsager Town Council I get to see so many examples of worthwhile voluntary work with old and young, with litter-picking and care for our environment. There are so many good folk around.

"It'd be great to see some of them stand for election to the Town and Borough Councils this May. It's people not political labels that make the difference."
