Boost for Alsager chess players who can look forward to two outdoor tables
Chess players in Alsager are set to get a boost with the news that the town is to get two outdoor chess tables.
The tables, each costing 2,500, have been already been installed in towns in other areas as part of the government's levelling up fund across the North West.
Now two of the tables and seats are set to be installed in Alsager - much to the delight of Nigel Hancock, a member of Alsager Chess Club.
Mr Hancock said no final decision had been about the location but suggestions to place the tables near Alsager library have been made.
He added: "They are very robust once in place and will last for decades to come.
"Chess has become very popular, particularly after Covid when people couldn't get out. It's incredibly good for mental health.
"It teaches children so many skills, including the fact you can't always be a winner. I've got so many friends who play chess."
