Blooming marvellous – 68th annual garden show is a huge success

By Deborah Bowyer 8th Sep 2021

Crowds of people turned out to Alsager Gardens Association's 68th annual show to see a selection of home grown vegetables, flowers and local crafts.

Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor Sarah Pochin opened the event at the Civic Centre and explained how important gardening and local crafts are for the community.

Cllr Pochin told visitors how good it was to be at the event and pointed out her connection with Alsager in that she has been a brand manager for Twyford.

"I am also an avid gardener and emphasise the importance of gardening. It's good for the soul and has been so important during lockdown."

Cllr Pochin was joined at the event by Alsager Parish Council chairman, Michael Unett.

Derek Hough, president of Alsager Gardens Association, said the event had been a big success.

He said: "There's been a lot of interest in the show. Gardening is so important for the community and we have lots of talented gardeners in Alsager.

"The exhibits were an inspiration to others and it was lovely to see so many wonderful entries and so much talent."
