Could you become a volunteer with Alsager Community Support?

Could you make a difference to someone's life and do you have a few hours to spare each week?

Alsager Community Support (ACS) in Lawton Road has launched an appeal for more volunteers to help make a difference to the lives of people in the town.

We reported earlier this month https://alsager.nub.news/news/local-news/centre-which-provides-information-support-and-help-for-people-in-alsager-is-honoured-with-queens-award-136055 how the centre was awarded the Queen's Award for voluntary service.

Now the centre is looking for volunteer lunch club drivers to help pick up and transport people to a weekly lunch club at Alsager Civic in the town centre.

And it also has a selection of other roles for volunteers if you don't fancy a driving position.

"I start picking up passengers about 11.30 am and arrive back at the Civic for the 1pm pick-up and return journey," said one volunteer driver.

"All in it takes me under two hours a run. Each diner has to be mobile enough to get in and out of the car unaided and so it's a very easy thing to do and so rewarding.

"I love volunteering in this way. I get to know my passengers and they tell me how much they enjoy their visits.

"Some of them are quite isolated and having a nice sociable lunch with similar people is something they very much look forward to."

Volunteer drivers should contact Steph Poole, volunteer co-ordinator at ACS, on 07707 237962 or email her at [email protected]

ASC also needs volunteers for several other roles. Their work can be seen on their website https://alsagercommunitysupport.org.uk/
