Reports of "loads of police" in Alsager appeared on Facebook earlier today and firearms officers were among those who took part in the search.

The man, wearing a dark coloured dressing gown, was captured on a CCTV footage belonging to Alsager resident, Cal John, who handed the footage over to police.

Mr John, an IT engineer from Sandbach Road South said: "I was working at home when police knocked on my door asking if they could look at any CCTV footage. They said they were looking for a bloke in a dressing gown carrying a machete.

"Apparently a guy had been run off the train by a man in a dressing gown carrying a machete. This guy apparently fled to Costa in Alsager for safety. I didn't see anything as I was busy working from home."
