An Alsager primary school has been awarded 'outstanding' by Ofsted – for the second time running.

St Gabriel's Catholic Primary School in Well Lane has retained its 'outstanding' grading following an inspection by Ofsted last month (June).

And it's set to be a double celebration for the school, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary year later this year.

Ofsted described pupils' behaviour as "remarkable" and said the school was "extremely ambitious for pupils".

In the report, Ofsted says: "Pupils thrive in this happy, nurturing school. Children in the early years, along with any pupils who are new to school, are given a warm welcome.

"They settle into school life quickly. Relationships between adults and pupils are exceptionally strong.

"Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), rise to the challenges that the school sets for them, academically and socially. They achieve highly across the curriculum."

Ofsted inspectors noted that children "thrive" in the school where there is a "happy" environment and "exceptionally strong" relationships between pupils and staff flourish.

It was also congratulated for its "aspirational curriculum" from the early years through to Year 6, "delivered by teachers who teach lessons with "strong subject expertise" and help pupils to achieve their full potential".

Headteacher Ed Byrne, said: "This is a testament to everyone who is part of the St Gabriel's community - the staff; the pupils; our governors and parents.

"St Gabriel's is a distinctly unique school, serving the children and families within. I am incredibly proud to be a part of it."

Deputy Headteacher, Claire Stevenson, said: "The report represents the hardworking, fantastic team of staff at St Gabriel's.

"We are all blessed to be a part of this community, and our wonderful pupils are at the heart of it."

St Gabriel's was last inspected by Ofsted in May 2012 when it was also awarded 'outstanding' by inspectors.

The school celebrates its 50th anniversary in the next academic year, continuing its mission to nurture "hearts and minds".
