Mayor of Alsager, Councillor Jane Hearne, is to stay in office for another year after a change in the normal pattern.

Usually the mayor only remains in office for a year but councillors voted in favour of the mayor staying in office for two years at last night's meeting (Tuesday).

Cllr Hearn said she had had an "amazing year" and had enjoyed every minute of it.

"It's been an absolute pleasure to be mayor during the last 12 months," she told the annual meeting of Alsager Town Council.

And councillors also voted in favour of the same pattern for the deputy mayor – to stay in office for a second year.

Cllr Michael Unett will continue supporting Cllr Hearne as deputy mayor.

Both Cllr Hearne and Cllr Unett signed their declaration of office and Cllr Hearne was presented with a Mayor's badge as a momento of last year.
