Alsager's first recipient of the 'Freeman of Alsager' title and a former chair and councillor of Alsager Town Council has sadly died.

The funeral arrangements for former councillor Ron Tyson, 85, who passed away on November 8th, have been released.

A funeral service for the former deputy head teacher of Brownhills High School is to be held on Friday (December 6th) in Alsager.

Mr Tyson, who was also a church warden at St Mary Magdalene's Church, passed away suddenly in the loving care of his family at home in Alsager.

Described as "a true gentleman who will be deeply missed", the funeral service takes place at 11.30 am on Friday (December 6th) followed by cremation at Bradwell Crematorium.

There are no flowers by request but instead donations to the Alzheimer's Society.

Mr Tyson was presented with his special 'Freeman' award by Mayor, Cllr Jane Hearne at her Civic service in September last year.

The award has been bestowed on Mr Tyson due to his 'exceptional services to the town and people of Alsager.

Mr Tyson had been involved in the Alsager community for almost 30 years, first joining the Town Council in 1995. In 1997, he joined the Alsager Institute Committee becoming Chairman of the Committee in 2001 and remaining as Chairman of the Committee until he retired from Alsager Town Council in 2023.

In addition to serving Alsager as a Town Councillor and Trustee of Alsager Institute, he was also a long serving member of the Rotary Club and Rugby Club. He had also been Chair and Trustee of The Jane Maddocks Homes for many years.

He was also a Trustee of the Alsager Educational Foundation and attended St. Mary's Church for more than 25 years, around 20 of which as Church Warden.

Mr Tyson had also represented St. Mary's at the Deanery Synod, attending meetings and reporting back on deanery/diocesan events.
