Alsager's Mayor, Councillor Jane Hearne, has thanked councillors and residents in her Christmas message to the town.

Cllr Hearne is Alsager's first mayor as until this year, Alsager Town Council had a 'chair' not 'mayor'. The town council approved the change from Chairman to Mayor at a meeting in June this year.

"As first ever Mayor of Alsager and with fellow councillors, I wanted to update you all on how I have been representing all of the residents of Alsager since May 2023," said Cllr Hearne.

"The community has proved to be stronger than ever regarding Cheshire East Council bringing in additional charges for the garden waste bin of £56 per annum and the consultation of charging parking fees on ALL of our car parks.

"Regarding the car park charges the public and Alsager Town Council have provided excellent feedback to Cheshire East to prevent charges, in order to protect our High Street and town. Cheshire East Council will be making their decision in the New Year.

"We remain living in times when budgets are tight and essential services are squeezed and constrained.

"However we still see improvements as with inclusive play equipment in our playgrounds and the move of the Alsager Market into the Civic buildings has been a great success.

"We have added additional stalls, and the market can remain open to all residents whether rain or shine. I have attended events supporting all of our charities for Alsager provided by our numerous volunteers which we couldn't do without.

"A massive thank you, on behalf of Alsager, for all you do. I have had the privilege of presenting a 'Freemans Honour' to Mr Ron Tyson for all of his contributions to Alsager through both organisations and charities.

"It was a very proud day. I was also honoured to switch on the Alsager Lights this year on behalf of the Round Table.

"Another thank you goes out to them for such an annual success with special thanks to Jonathan Kirby who has driven every Santa run and Jimmy Ashley for the organising of Santa.

The residents of Alsager love all that you do – THANK YOU. On behalf of Alsager Town Council, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Councillor Jane Hearne, Alsager Town Mayor.
