Organisers of Alsager's annual Pride day celebrating LGBTQ+ community have cancelled this year's event.

Pride in Alsager cited "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason for calling off the event, due to take place on Saturday, 8 August.

In the past, there has been a parade ending up with stalls and music at Alsager Cricket Club in Fairview Avenue.

Pride in Alsager said on Social Media: "Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel our annual Pride in Alsager event on 8 August.

"We remain committed to supporting our LGBTQIA+ community and will be holding further events throughout the year."

It comes after Pride in Alsager held a fundraising quiz on 25 June at Bod Alsager.

Bod Alsager in Crewe Road has said it will still be celebrating Pride on 8 August with a live music event.

They said: "All of us here at Bod Alsager are saddened to hear the news that Pride in Alsager has been cancelled this year.
