The Alsager tip reopened after a 'possible explosive substance' found there was determined to be 'not suspicious' following examination from the bomb squad.
The household waste recycling centre, on Hassall Road, had to be closed down yesterday (Sunday, 23rd May) after a possible explosive substance had been found on the site.
Police officers and experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called in to examine the substance.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "Officers were called just before 1pm on Sunday 23rd May to a recycling centre on Hassall Road following reports that a possible explosive substance had been found.
"Police swiftly attended the scene along with EOD and the site was evacuated.
"Following further examination it was determined that the item was not suspicious."
Cllr Mick Warren, chair of Cheshire East Council's environment and communities committee, said: "Staff at our household waste and recycling centre in Alsager responded swiftly to a report of a suspicious object, thought to be a possible explosive, but which turned out to be harmless.
"In line with the standard procedures for making a discovery of this nature, the emergency services were called and a bomb disposal squad arrived to
investigate. "The package turned out to be harmless, although it had the appearance of an explosive material. "While this investigation took place yesterday, for the safety of the public the site was cleared for 30 minutes. We are pleased to say that the centre hasopened as usual today with no delays."
