An Alsager woman has helped spearhead an effort to make blankets for families in war-torn Ukraine.

Lynn Morris from Russell Avenue helps run a monthly 'Knit and Natter, Crochet and Chatter' group in Wheelock, Sandbach.

The group, Wheelock Congregational Church's 'Knit and Natter, Crochet and Chatter', is donating a table full of blankets to Ukraine.

The group is led by Lynn and Lena Porter and has many members, including Sandbach Mayor, Councillor Laura Crane, who attends whenever she is able to.

Lynn said the response to provide blankets f0r the Ukraine has been enormous.

"We have so many members, including our vicar, the Rev Clifford Millington and his wife Sandra.

"It's been such a project and those who haven't knitted or crocheted them have helped sew them together.

"We're so grateful to everyone who has taken part."

Now the group, which is always looking for donations of wool, knitting needles and crochet hooks, is poised to start work on another project.

"I would like us to start making hats for premature babies at local hospitals," said Lynn.

Anyone wanting further information about the group, which meets again this Wednesday (July 19th), can contact cliffordmillington @btinternet.com, phone 01270 761260 or email [email protected]
