An Alsager veterinary practice owner found himself in the hotseat when he was asked to judge a recent pet show.

Carl May, who runs Vets4Pets in Lawton Road, was asked to judge the dog show in aid of Animals in Need, at this year's Alsager Carnival.

"It was by far the most popular, with up to a dozen entrants per category. It's always a lot of fun and it's lovely to see how enthusiastic both owners and entrants are," said Carl.

"There are some fun categories in there as well, which always prove very popular, especially the fancy dress and most like the owner.

"It was also really good to see how many kids were involved and the best young handler proves just how much dogs are a very important part of our families."

Carl added: "Alsager Animals in Need is the local pet rescue who work incredibly hard and we're very proud to be associated with them, both as their vets and in helping where we can with events such as this.

"They are completely reliant on donations from the public. People can go to their website and sign up to support in any way they can.

"The rescue is always looking for more fosterers for cats or dogs and cover any costs incurred. Anyone interested should contact them directly."
