Alsager Town's under-18s side coached by Premier League winner

By Tom Avery 29th Sep 2020

Alsager Town Football Club was delighted to welcome former England international Joleon Lescott to take their U18s training session last week.

Lescott who won four major trophies during his time with Manchester City was joined by former Manchester United player Simon Davies.

Davies was recently assistant manager at Belgian giants Anderlecht, who are currently managed by Lescott's former City centre back partner and captain Vincent Kompany.

Having the pair with a wealth of experience in the game coaching the club's youngsters was the latest instalment in the Bullets' association with former professional players.

It was only last month that the club announced former Burnley goalkeeper Brian Jensen as the club's under-18 youth team coach.

When asked about the impact having former professionals would have on the club, Terry Greer, chairman of Alsager Town, told Nub News: "It's great for the kids to be getting coached by players with such experience and pedigree in the game."

Mr Greer said both Davies and Lescott would be welcome to return in the future.

The Bullets' under-18s side are on the lookout for new players this season.

On Sunday, the U18s hosted their counterparts from Curzon Ashton. The visitors took the points with a 2-0 win.
