The Chair of Alsager Town Council has heaped praise on local groups for their community spirit after holding his Civic Service at the weekend.

Civic dignitaries, local clergy and representatives from community groups came together to attend a service yesterday (Sunday) at St Mary Magdalene's Church in Alsager.

Alsager Town Council, Councillor Philip Williams said: "It was lovely to see the local clergy, representatives of community groups and people from various churches across our town, as well as civic dignitaries from Cheshire and Staffordshire at our Civic Service.

"It was an opportunity to celebrate all the agencies, voluntary and statutory groups that make such a valuable contribution to the life of our community.

"We raised substantial funds for this year's Chairman's charities: Alsager Dementia Friendly Community and Alsager Friends of Christie.

"Once again there was strong evidence of the generosity and community spirit, we are fortunate to have here in Alsager."
